Personal Description:
I've toured with bands signed and unsigned, playing small venues to large festivals.
My passion is in smooth jazz re-creating the sounds of Grover Washington and Dave Koz. I implement and re create those sounds and styles for function bands, jazz trio and quartets and playing solo at weddings.
For theatre, I've played in the West end, Toronto & UK touring the show The Buddy Holly Story and in the West End & UK touring the show, Soul Sister.
I am currently the resident saxophonist at the Ritz hotel in London.
Tutoring Experience:
Peripatetic tutoring on saxophone, clarinet & flute for Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, London and Milton Keynes music services from 1997 to current day whilst also teaching privately. I've taught and led jazz workshops for the Camden & Islington music authorities which gave me the working experience and insight to write the method book - 'The Improvisors Manual'.
Tutoring Approach:
Music should always be fun and practical. I don't shy away from scales and arpeggios but they are always taught from the perspective of immediate use in improvisation. I find the jazz syllabus of trinity and abrsm to be wide and engaging enough for most pupils to enjoy the pieces and still take the grade exams if they wish to and of course the wider range of popular to classical is also well covered.
I always use current pop and rock songs and jazz standards to keep learning relevant to music currently trending. I aim to help with the how to practically understand and read music as well as playing by ear (aurally) which calls for different approaches during the lesson(s).

Kenton is really good at establishing where you currently are with your playing and identifying the key areas to focus on to improve your saxophone journey.
In addition to this, lessons are informative, iteractive and last but not least… fun!!
I would highly recommend Kenton for 1-2-1 tutoring!
Kenton is just excellent, he got down to understand why I was struggling and within one lesson worked How to improve my and. Y the second lesson I was starting get my mojo back, if I ever had one. I have started to practice and totally motivated to keep going. Lesson are mix of traditional and technology aids, the combination just work well for me. Great.
As a senior student I find your approach suits me well.
I would highly recommend you for one to one saxophone lessons.
