Personal Description:
I am a clarinet, saxophone and piano teacher with 25 years experience. I teach at Bootham and The Mount Schools in York and at York St. John's University. I teach all ages from 6 years old to retirement age, all levels from Beginner to Diploma and in all styles including Classical, Jazz, Rock and Pop.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught for 25 years in a number of schools and colleges. A few include Ampleforth College, Ashville College (Harrogate) and Queen Ethelburga's College.
I currently teach at Bootham and The Mount Schools and at York St. John's University.
Tutoring Approach:
Overall i want my pupils to enjoy their lessons and play any style of music that they really like. I do enter students for exams if they wish but this is not essential. I am familiar with all the Classical and Jazz Grade and Diploma exams offered by ABRSM and Trinity College.

KateFrom Archie (5/5): I've only had a few lessons with Kate so far but I'm absolutely loving it, she's a really passionate teacher who stresses every single detail of playing, from fingerwork to posture to breathing to musicality. I can't wait to continue to work with her! Highly recommend!

From Louise (/5): Kate’s response was quick. The lessons have moved to zoom due to lockdown . As a tutor Kate has a nice relaxed style that’s bound to encourage even the most nervous student. I feel they are great value for money as well as thoroughly enjoyable. Excellent tutor and coach.

From Sue (/5): Kate assessed my physical ability to play the saxophone following an injury to my wrist, advised me on how to buy a starter instrument and I have now had 5 lessons. Kate has been most determined to fix issues with my posture, breathing and embouchure and I feel I am making very good progress under her tuition. The lessons are also great fun, and I actively look forward to playing together with her. I am impressed with how she can just add a piano part to the saxophone tune! Thanks to her encouragement and positivity I am also willingly practising very regularly.

Kate has been very helpful arranging times to suit our student daughter and taking her through the pieces Most importantly at this level, her confidence in playing is improving and she is very motivated to achieve. Happy to recommend Kate to any pupils…
