Personal Description:
I am a professional musician teaching oboe, recorder and early years music to students of all ages. My teaching is based on the Suzuki philosophy, providing a comprehensive musical education in a fun way that enables children to become confident in their ability to learn, develop and enjoy music.
This includes:
-Suzuki Early Childhood (age 0-3)
-Suzuki Recorder (age 4+)
-Suzuki Piano (age 4+)
-Oboe (age 8+)
Tutoring Experience:
I have a great deal of teaching experience, having taught students of all ages in individual and group settings. I have previously worked for local music services teaching oboe, recorder and early years music in schools and local music centres. I have also led a number of music workshops in the community.
I qualified with the British Suzuki Music Association (BSMA) as one of the first Suzuki recorder teachers in the UK, having completed the training to teach Suzuki recorder (level 3), Suzuki Early Childhood (level 2) & Suzuki piano (level 1). I enter students for Suzuki graduations &/or ABRSM exams if/when appropriate.
Tutoring Approach:
I am passionate about working with students and encouraging them to reach their potential so that they can enjoy music and the development of their ability. I believe that all children can develop musical skill and that this proves of high value to them, enabling not only musical ability but also skills that are vital for the rest of life. Skills such as concentration, perseverance, co-ordination, motivation, teamwork, sensitivity, listening and positive self-esteem. Lessons also include fun, interactive approaches to music theory so that students gain a solid understanding of the language of music.
