Personal Description:
I am an experienced post grade 8 musician and have a B A Honors Degree in Music. I have played woodwind for many years and am very passionate about sharing my knowledge and expertise as a tutor. I offer exam or 'just for pleasure' tuition in woodwind, singing, piano / keyboard and music theory. I also teach jazz improvisation and have recently achieved a distinction in jazz saxophone. Loan instruments and 'try-it-out' taster sessions are available. I am a friendly and approachable person and enjoy teaching both children and adults of any age. I also offer internet tuition with the instruments I teach if you prefer it, or are unable to come to me (this doesn't include singing tuition).
Tutoring Experience:
I've been teaching for about 6 years, have a DBS check and teach in a local primary school. I am also a musical entertainer where I play clarinet, sing and play sax for weddings, functions and special occasions. I also play for patients at residential and care homes. I offer both teaching students for their own personal enjoyment, or work towards exams. The exam boards I cover are ABRSM for woodwind instruments, LCM for musical theatre singing and Rockschool for keyboard. I also organise concerts for my pupils to take part in and meet other musicians if they wish to do so.
Tutoring Approach:
First and foremost I want you to feel comfortable and relaxed and to enjoy your playing. Also, I can provide access to ensemble(band) playing via computer program. All lessons will be tailored to suit your individual requirements.

She taught me as a total novice, she made me feel at ease, was encouraging, and excellent teacher. I learnt 12 notes and could play quite a few pieces of music. She also taught me music theory along the way too. I thoroughly enjoyed my lessons.

I have passed clarinet grade 3 and 4 since I began lessons with Karen. Karen will assist you with the aural and theory as well as the practical. She is always supportive and encouraging. Lessons are fun and very reasonable prices.

Karen was exactly what I was looking for and adapted her style of teaching to make sure that I got the most out of our time together. She was punctual, patient, friendly and knowledgable and I would not hesitate to recommend her as a tutor. She is also great value for money as due to her enthusiasm some of the sessions ran over the agreed hour but she never seemed to mind and I think would have carried on if I had not told her the time! Now that I am back at work I do not have time for any more lessons but hopefully in the future will book some more when I have more time.
