Personal Description:
FIRST LESSON FREE!!!
Music is one of the most important and rewarding skills you will ever learn. It certainly was for me.
Hi, my name is Josh and I am a multi-award-winning music composer, artist, songwriter and teacher with 10+ years of experience. I currently teach Piano, Keyboard, Music Theory & Music Composition. I have taught students of all ages and abilities and I will tailor each lesson to fit your own specific needs.
About Me As A Music Professional
I first began learning music in 2013 (at the age of 11), when I learned the Keyboard, and immediately began to develop my skills as a musician. Between 2015-2018 I won the Swindon Music Festival (on Keyboard) 4 years in a row before switching to playing piano. Whilst still a student I had the opportunity to tour Italy with my music, perform piano in multiple musicals (including working on one production as the musical director) and to create and run music teaching workshops with Music Workshop Ciren.
In 2023 I graduated from the University of Gloucestershire with a First Class degree in Popular Music and won the UoG Music Business & Enterprise Award for my “outstanding work which has impacted the UK’s music industries regionally, nationally and internationally”, becoming the first ever non-business student to win the award.
Since then I have worked with individuals and companies in all areas of the music industry. Most notably: teaching and working closely with Gloucestershire Music, West Midlands Music and Severn Arts; meeting with Grammy award-winning producers; and writing songs with multi-platinum selling songwriters. As recently as June 2024, I became a national Royal Television Society Award Winning composer with a documentary I worked on last year called I'll Just Have Cats.
In addition to this, I have written and published 2 piano sheet music books (one of which I published by the age of just 17), worked on more than 15 projects as a music composer and released over 20 neo-classical piano tracks which has gained me over 120,000 streams/views and culminated in a total of over 25,000 unique listeners on Spotify as a completely independent artist. As an artist and performer I was also given the opportunity to play my original music on Gustav Holst's 120 year old piano (where he composed The Planets) at the Holst Museum in Cheltenham.
I have a full range of skills to help you successfully achieve your goals in music that I have honed over my 10+ years of experience; whether it be to become a music professional, learn a new skill, or simply get help with navigating those tricky music exams. I generally teach at beginner or intermediate level so if you are 6, 106, or any age in between, I’d love to help you succeed with your music.
Feel free to send me a message if you have any further questions or would like to book a lesson with me, and I will always aim to respond within 24 hours.
Tutoring Experience:
I first began teaching music in 2017. Since then I have taught a mix of one-to-one lessons and group sessions, created and run music holiday camps, and delivered songwriting & composition workshops to thousands of pupils in schools across the West of England. During this time I have worked with companies such as Gloucestershire Music, Severn Arts, West Midlands music and more. Below are some of my testimonials from past students, collaborators and schools:
"Josh was so lovely to work with. He was very easy to communicate with and I could see Josh's commitment… and his passion" - Kay
"Josh was absolutely amazing. He was attentive and it would be an absolute privilege to work with him again in the future" - Devon
"Can I just say THANK YOU for coming to our school. It was unbearably hot yet the children still sat and listened because it was brilliant. [Josh] taught an excellent music lesson and we would love to do this again" - Anna (Headteacher of a local primary school).
"[Josh] was amazing, and our children really enjoyed [his] workshop lessons" - Mary (Music Co-ordinator for a local primary school)
"Highly Recommended" - Ryan
Tutoring Approach:
My lessons will always be dynamic, informative and student-centred. Rather than simply teaching you from a one-size-fits-all approach, each lesson will be tailored to fit styles and techniques that you as the student are looking to improve upon. While there will always be structured plans in place for every session you take with me - which will ensure you continuously develop your skills in music - you will get the most out of my lessons if you come with your own questions and curiosities and show a genuine interest in learning music (and of course if you practice regularly too).
Not sure what you want to learn yet? That's also fine, during our lessons together we can set aside time to simply discuss the things you enjoy and find the perfect musical avenue for you!
Your first lesson with me will be a chance to discuss your musical interests, goals and what I can do to best help you achieve them. I generally teach in-person from my studio in Stratton St Margaret, Swindon, and each lesson's length will be anywhere from 20 minutes to 1 hour plus for adults/more advanced students.
If you are a beginner (regardless of age) I would recommend a 30-minute lesson once a week, but if you send me a message we can discuss your individual needs and requirements before we begin.
