Personal Description:

I am currently a freelance musician & teacher based in Liverpool having completed my Advanced Postgraduate Diploma at the Royal Northern College of Music in 2018. I received my Masters at the same institution and Bachelors at the Birmingham Conservatoire. I began playing the recorder from a young age before taking up lessons on the piano, violin and eventually finding the oboe.

I regularly freelance with orchestras across the United Kingdom & Ireland. Recent engagements include London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Hallé Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Orchestra of Opera North, RTE Concert Orchestra and Ulster Orchestra amongst others. During my studies I also participated on Professional Experience Schemes with both the Hallé Orchestra & City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra.

Tutoring Experience:

I've previously been the specialist oboe teacher at both Sheffield Music Academy and Trafford Music Service and currently operate a private teaching practice from my home teaching oboe, piano & music theory with students of all ages!
I do also offer online sessions for those who aren't close by.

Tutoring Approach:

I’m extremely passionate about music and the importance of it to young people. With so many transferable skills I feel that a musical education is integral to a well rounded education. Most important of all though, music should be fun and I work hard to ensure that each pupil takes as much enjoyment from their instrument as I do. I strive to have an open approach so each student can reach their full potential.

I have a 100% pass rate through the ABRSM Syllabus but believe that it is important that students choose the exam board that suits them best. Prior to beginning lessons, I'll help you navigate sourcing the right instrument for them, alongside discussing which reeds will suit any oboists best, and will provide a checklist of all other essentials to ensure you can hit the ground running and have as much fun as possible!
