Personal Description:
I am an active 'cellist, repairer and teacher. I teach in a number of schools, but also offer tuition at home. I am often able to supply beginners with instruments on loan.
Tutoring Experience:
Since 1974, whilst working as a schoolmaster I also taught the 'cello and worked as a freelance cellist. I worked latterly for Kent Music (as Area Manager for Maidstone and West Kent), and now work privately. I have taught pupils from the ages of five to over 70, I can work with small groups, I coach chamber groups and orchestral sections.
Tutoring Approach:
Every pupil is an individual and requires an approach that is tailored to their needs. I am happy to work towards graded examinations, or not as the pupil wishes. It is my firm opinion that the most important aspect of playing the instrument is enjoyment - and this has to be maintained through the use of suitable and varied repertoire and a varied, problem-solving approach.
