Personal Description:

I'm a singer-songwriter. I have a degree from BCU in guitar and composition.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been teaching privately for 7 years. I've helped a few students pass their graded exams but most students prefer a more informal approach, without taking grades.

Tutoring Approach:

I can cater to your needs. As mentioned above, I can teach to a graded course or I can just teach you whatever styles, songs, techniques you feel like you want to learn. I generally expect students to practice at least double the length of each lesson in order to progress from lesson to lesson. So if you were to have a half hour lesson you would need to do an absolute minimum of 1 hour of practice before the following lesson in order for there to be any value in having the next lesson.

I tend to focus on musicality and ear training as these are the most underrated skills in musicians today: There are far too many guitarists who can play very fast but cannot play along with a song without being told what scale to play. There are too many guitarists who can play a dozen songs from memory but would have no clue how to transpose that song into a different key. And, there are too many guitarists who can create impressive youtube demos but cannot play in time with a band. I address these kinds of issues as the primary focus of my tuition.
