Personal Description:

I am a friendly and professional music teacher who loves helping others experience the joy of music. Whether you're already a competent player or an absolute beginner, technique and musicianship will be at the forefront of your lessons should you chose me as your teacher. Having studied performance for my MA in Performance at Huddersfield University, my students are encouraged to perform their pieces in such a way that even the most basic ones are a pleasure to listen to, not merely a collection of notes that don't say anything.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching for 28 years and have helped students pass Grade 8 exams on clarinet. I currently have a student preparing for their Grade 8 piano exam. I regularly use my 30+ years' experience playing clarinet in an amateur orchestra in Manchester in my lessons to help students fulfil their full potential as musicians.

Tutoring Approach:

Students wishing to take either ABRSM or LCM exams are welcome but no-one is pushed into taking an exam if they don't want to. As long as my students are progressing I'm happy. Of course, regular practise is encouraged to make this happen.

Lessons are given in the comfort and familiar surroundings of your own home in and around the Wigan area. I currently have students in the following areas:

Wrightington
Hindley Green
Horwich
Lathom
Simonswood
Skelmersdale
Swinley

… but can travel to other areas in and around Wigan too. If I'm unable to travel to your area or cannot give you home lesson at a time to suit you, I may be able to give you lessons at Rimmers Music in Leyland on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday - subject to availability.
