Personal Description:
Combined with his career as a concert recitalist in possession of a repertoire spanning five centuries - from the Renaissance through to the 20th century - Jeff also enjoys the reputation of being a fine flamenco and jazz guitarist making him without doubt one of the most versatile guitarists in the UK.
In addition to his solo activity, Jeff performs actively in a variety of classical and jazz settings. As a flamenco guitarist, he has a number of original flamenco compositions to his name. He is also interested in early music and plays vihuela de mano.
Jeff has recorded two acclaimed CDs to date.
As well as being regularly invited to perform at various venues and festivals throughout the UK, he has also performed in Canada, Portugal, Spain and Italy.
A sought after teacher, he runs a busy teaching schedule, and taught at the renowned Spanish Guitar Centre in London for many years.
Based in London since 1998, Jeff received his Bachelor of Music from the University of Toronto, where he studied with Norbert Kraft and Jeffrey McFadden. He studied jazz improvisation with Rob Bulger and flamenco guitar with Pepe Haro. He also holds an FRSM in Performance.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 15 years music teaching experience. I taught at the renowned Spanish Guitar Centre in London for 9 years and am currently visiting/peripatetic guitar teacher to three schools in the greater London area, in addition to running a private studio.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach all levels/styles and specilaize in Classical/Flamenco and Jazz Guitar. My approach is firstly the acquisition of a correct playing technique and a basic comprehension of rhythmic skills. For those who wish to learn the classical guitar, I work through a suitable introduction method book followed by graded board syllabuses (ABRSM/Trinity Guildhall/LCM). Jazz pupils will learn a thorough approach to fingerboard knowledge (chords/scales/arpeggios), in addition to supplementary music theory.
