Personal Description:
Welcome on my page, my name is Jane GMUSRNCM(Hons) PGCE
I am both an active musician and teacher, primarily working in Berkshire and South Oxfordshire. I offer online and in-person piano and bassoon tuition.
I enjoy teaching all ages and levels from beginner to advanced. With my teaching method, I ensure my students develop the skills to play any musical piece they like. Even online, I can see exactly what each student needs to improve.
About me:
Having studied Piano and Bassoon as a joint first Study at the Royal Northern College Of Music I was awarded the GMUSRNCM (Hons) degree and continued my studies with the post-graduate degree PGCE in teaching.
Tutoring Experience:
My career then started with teaching posts in Kingsbury, London, Harrow and Watford Boys Grammar School. I was head of Music at Featherstone High School and then moved to become head of Music at Rooks Heath in Harrow and then Head of Music at St Crispin's School up until 2010 in Wokingham.
I then taught as a bassoon and piano teacher at Ludgrove School and Holmegrange School in Wokingham. I teach students privately in my studio and online. Many of my students are advanced students, however I teach all abilities including adult learners.
Tutoring Approach:
I treat each pupil as an individual and recognise that each pupil has his /her own requirements for learning and that learning music must be a positive and enjoyable experience. This is also in conjunction with student's own expectations. I believe in choosing repertoire that inspires students to want to learn, therefore encouraging regular practise.
My philosophy in teaching is to give all pupils access to a variety of music styles, focusing on an understanding the music they are studying, how the music is constructed and how to convey the character of the music and the style according to the composer's intentions. By teaching musical understanding right at the beginning of a pupil's musical experience, sets up the foundation for later learning and enables pupils to have independent learning skills.
