Personal Description:

I am a mathematics graduate who is currently studying for an online graduate diploma in composition for film and games at the Film Scoring Academy of Europe.

I've been playing the piano for as long as I can remember and I have always had a passion for education in general whether that be learning myself, encouraging others or even teaching. I believe fostering this atmosphere of continuous learning makes everything more interesting.

Tutoring Experience:

Most of my experience comes from tutoring undergraduate students through first-year mathematics courses. However, I'm also able to break concepts down in simple and easy to understand ways. This was a skill I had to use often in my Unversity's outreach programs where we would often teach Brownies or Scouts archery which can be a very technical discipline.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe in a holistic approach to teaching which avoids plain ro**Contact Detail Removed**arning in favour of motivating the topics you're learning. This means a lot more involvement from my tutees. For instance, if you want to understand the function of a chord it is good to try substituting it for others in a piece you know to see the effect that has musically.

I also highly value musicality. This isn't taught directly so much as fostered through how the student engages with the music. This means encouraging practices like singing or humming melodies or listening to nuances in others' performances for pieces you want to play. It is to see more than the notes on the page.
