Personal Description:
I am a big believer in passion led tuition. With a background of both solo and band work, tied with a classical upbringing and 7 years of teaching experience I have a wealth of knowledge to allow students to follow whatever path they are most interested in.
Some of my live performance highlights include playing the Isle of Wight festival, gaining over 170k streams on Spotify for my recent single, as well as both my solo and band endeavours are backed by reputable music labels.
I’ve worked both as private peripatetic teacher and a music instructor at St Mark's Academy, which allowed me to hone my teaching methods to individual needs and learning styles. I specialize in piano, drums, and composition, as well as guidance in live performance, improvisation, and music theory.
Tutoring Experience:
Having taught students ranging from 5 to 78 years old, I've developed a deep understanding of catering to diverse learning styles and individual needs. I have also formed my own teaching agency and take pride in giving as many students the gift of music that I can.
I studied under Gabor Dornyei, a world-renowned drummer, for 4 years and I'm eager to share his invaluable insights with my students. As well as this, I have successfully taught piano up to Grade 8 ABRSM.
To ensure a safe and secure learning environment, I have undergone DBS checks.
Tutoring Approach:
A student’s musical journey is always different and personalised; I lean into what most takes a student’s interest to make music education as enjoyable as possible. I have found that the more joy a student has during their lesson, directly translates into more practice outside of the lesson and therefore progress.
I am happy to work with students through gradings, compositions, improvisation and musical theory to both find out what a student enjoys the most, and to make them as well-rounded as possible.

He is very calm, patient and clear in his instructions. Importantly he makes lessons fun and exciting by the varied grade pieces played as well as his encouragement of personal compositions and expression. Jake’s extremely experienced approach has made all the difference to my son’s enthusiasm for music and his playing skills have improved significantly in a very short period. I cannot express enough how grateful I am for his on-going support in teaching him and would not hesitate in recommending him to others.
