Personal Description:
I was educated at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire. I majored in harpsichord and studied under Robin Bigwood, Steven Devine and Martin Perkins. I also studied piano under Katharine Lam, choral conducting under Paul Spicer and operatic vocal studies under Gordon Sandison.
I have worked with all forms of musical performance and teaching, including: facilitating school workshops for Welsh National Opera, and directing both professional and community choirs. I direct an Early Music chamber group, and maintain a portfolio career as a performer in all aspects of my training: composing, conducting, singing, piano and harpsichord.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for 7 years since graduating from RBC. I started off teaching singing at a vocal academy, but have since moved on to teach privately, instead. I have experience of working with young people, teaching piano and singing in both primary, and secondary schools across the West Midlands. I mostly teach singing and piano, as conducting and harpsichord are somewhat more specialist to ask for, but am excited to take requests for teaching these skills. I am used to working with all ages, teaching children as young as 6, stretching well up to retired students, and beyond!
Tutoring Approach:
I take a relaxed approach to teaching, aiming to make the learning process enjoyable as well as rewarding. I do not pressure students to take examinations, if that isn't something they would like to do, however fully support and encourage all students who do wish to do so.

Before allowing them to quit we thought we would try a new teacher and found Jack via First Tutor. Within a few weeks Jack had reignited the boys interest in piano with both of them now choosing pieces they love and they are making real progress. Jack's ability to engage the boys, as well as his musical talent, sets him apart from our boys previous teachers.
A talented accompanist and keen listener who loves words as much as the music.
A great find.
