Personal Description:
My name is Ioana and I have just finished my 3rd year studying Popular Music at Edinburgh Napier University. I’ve been playing guitar and bass for 6 and 4 years respectively, in many styles such as Pop, Rock, Soul, Funk, Ska, Blues and Metal. My mixed gigging experiences (ranging from original music gigs to covers) have allowed me to develop and fine-tune my skills in the various genres of music.
My principle study on the Popular Music course is composition/song-writing, so for those who are interested in writing their own music, I am more than happy to tutor and share some of the tricks and techniques I have learned in University so far. I have experience in writing music as a service (i.e for video and games), as part of a band and my own solo material. I am also proficient in using both Logic Pro X and Pro Tools.
Tutoring Experience:
I have experience teaching young children, teens and adults, so I can tailor the lessons to each student’s needs and wants. I am confident in teaching music theory, how to read music and/or tablature, as well as creating exercises and fast-paced games for aural training (i.e identifying rhythms, chords, etc). In order for students to apply the music theory they learn, some of the lesson materials will focus on improvising/creating original music.
Tutoring Approach:
By teaching songs that students want to learn, I aim to make the lessons fun as I believe that’s something that really drives the motivation to improve and learn more. I can provide extra tuition material and lesson exercises created in my spare time at no extra cost if I and/or my students believe it will help aid their learning and progress. My lessons are as conversational as possible when need be, in order to help my students engage with the material. I also want to ensure that they are definitely understanding the lesson content, and to encourage questioning when something is not clear; no questions are daft! I am happy to make myself available on demand as much as possible if the students have questions about the material outside of the lessons.

I would recommend her to anyone looking to improve (or just play about) on guitar
It has been so great to see Sam progress so quickly over our lessons so far, as he picks up correct techniques very quickly, playing with great fluency and has such a positive and bright attitude in his lessons. It is clear that he works on the lesson materials at home, in order to keep improving fast. Keep it up, Sam!
