Personal Description:
Hi! I'm a concert pianist and friendly and patient piano teacher based in Sheffield with over 15 years' experience.
I hold an MMus in Piano from Trinity College of Music in London and two degrees from the University of Cambridge.
I have performed internationally as well as live on BBC Radio 3 and 4, and across the UK’s major venues, including the Purcell Room, Milton Court Concert Hall, St John's Smith Square, St Martin-in-the-Fields, St James's Piccadilly and The National Gallery.
With a special passion for chamber music and vocal accompaniment, I have collaborated with Dominic Miller, Lizzie Ball, Luis Gomes, Ian Anderson, Vanessa Lucas-Smith, Omar Puente, Coro Cervantes, Clara Rodríguez and Nina Corti, and have also shared a platform with Morgan Szymanski, Fábio Zanon and Marcelo Bratke.
I am also a specialist practitioner of Ibe/rican repertoire and a committed advocate for cultural diversity in classical music. I have premiered many works by Latin American composers in the UK, including Villa-Lobos and Guastavino, and have also commissioned new works by pre-eminent Latin American composers such as Lorenz and González-Medina.
My recent projects include the recording of my debut album 'TangOpera' (due for release later in 2023), which explores the lyric routes of the tango; and a programme with Spanish soprano, Lorena Paz Nieto, bringing to light the secret works of Luso-Hispanic women composers, titled 'Mujeres: ¡Presentes!'
'Magical' (BBC Radio 3's In Tune)
'So beautiful' (BBC Radio 4's Woman's Hour)
'Satisfyingly understated' (Music & Vision)
'A magnificent musician’ (**Contact Detail Removed**cinco)
Tutoring Experience:
I have 15 years' experience teaching all ages and leves up to diploma level, with a 100% exam pass rate and most of my students achieving a merit or distinction. Many of my students have also won competitions and music scholarships.
I currently work both as a private tutor and also at the Sheffield Music Academy.
Tutoring Approach:
I tailor the syllabus to each individual student and their personal goals, but aim to offer a balance of practical, aural and theory. My main focus in teaching playing is on expression, supported by strong technique and sound understanding of the historical and cultural context of the music. I do a lot of exam preparation but I'm also happy to teach students looking to learn just for fun.
