Personal Description:

Born in Wales, Hannah has been heavily involved in music since a young age. Starting the saxophone at the age of 12, Hannah flew through her grades and explored various styles of repertoire.
Hannah was an active member of several youth ensembles including Carmarthenshire Senior and Three Counties Wales’ Big Band and Wind Band. Being a committed individual to the ensembles she played in and a helping hand to the younger ensembles of the county, Hannah received the Terry Jones Memorial Award as an acknowledgement of her outstanding contribution to music.
In 2012, Hannah was fortunate to have the experience of being part of the National Youth Jazz Ensemble of Wales that ran under the guidance of jazz musician Percy Pursglove.
After graduating from Royal Holloway, University of London with Upper Second Class Honours, Hannah has specialised in both composition and performance as part of her Music degree.
Hannah has grown as a performer under the guidance of her tutor and professional saxophonist, Kyle Horch. Exploring the unfamiliar world of the Classical Saxophone, Hannah has performed as a soloist at several London Churches as well as part of ensembles including Royal Holloway’s Sinfonietta, Undergraduated Big Band and lead saxophonist for Armonia Saxophone Quartet. Hannah has also played with the Orchestra of the City for their performance of Mussorsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition and became a regular dep for the Vince Dunn Orchestra.
In 2020, Hannah returned to her home country of Wales after qualifying as a Music therapist from the Guildhall School of Music and Drama. Hannah is a fully qualified and HCPC registered Music Therapist with special interest and experience in working within Dementia care, Perinatal Mental Health, Music and memory, and child development and trauma.
Since early 2022, Hannah has been a member of BWCA; a Welsh rock band, where she both plays saxophone and sings with 3 other band members.

Hannah currently teachers as a private tutor outside of her performance work and therapy work with exam results of her pupils averaging at a merit mark.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that learning an instrument or improving on an instrument is supposed to be an enjoyable experience. My approach to music teaching is inspired by this, making sure there is a balance between hard work and exploring repertoire that is fun. Not only do I prepare pupils for graded exams, but I also look at repertoire that is suitable for the pupil and build a knowledge base for further music exploration.
Learning would be based around both practical and written work to make sure that the pupil understands why things happen in music rather than just being told to memorise the method.
Music is the opportunity to express oneself freely and I am willing to help those find the path that is most suited to them.
