Personal Description:

Facilitating creativity is what I strive to do in my work.

From 2018 to 2020 I was at The Royal welsh college of music and drama learning, creating, performing and facilitating music while on the MA jazz program. During the first year of my masters I was part of The RWCMD Bigband, performing in The Dora Stoutzker hall, Taliesin Arts Centre and Brecon Theatre. I also participated in two recording sessions with the bigband and for the final project we explored “Bob Curnow's L.A. Big band the music of Pat Metheny and Lyle Mays”.

From January 2018 to September 2019 I worked as a showband musician with P&O Cruises, spending over 8 months between 3 of their ships: Britannia, Oriana and Aurora.
Acts I’ve played with include: Peter Howarth (lead singer of the Hollies), Andrew Derbyshire (Britain’s got talent semi finalist), Trumpeter Georgina Jackson and Pianist Mac Frampton.
This gave me a high level of proficiency on my instruments and has allowed me to work more flexibly, responsively, and calmly under pressure.

From Nov 2021 to Jul 2022, I worked 3 days a week with Dudley performing arts, teaching around 150 students over 9 schools. I taught in 1 to 1, small group and whole class settings, with the instruments of Flute, Clarinet, Saxophone and Recorder. This gave me experience of helping others to develop musically and how to differentiate teaching to the learning styles of a wide range of young people.
From Jan 2023-July 2024 I've been teaching with four music services in London; Merton music foundation, THAMES, Lewisham music and Kingston Music service.

I have an awareness and appreciation of the educational value of a diverse range of musical genres and practices. For example for the last five years I’ve been performing at World of music and dance (Womad) festival with the Fallout marching band, hearing and performing many styles and genres of music and from 2013 to 2015 I joined The Grand Union Youth Orchestra: taking part in rehearsals, masterclasses and performances such as Undreamed Shores at Hackney Empire in 2014. This gave me a strong foundation in many forms of music from around the world.

I have a current Enhanced DBS which is on the update service.

Tutoring Experience:

Currently tutor with Merton music foundation and Tower Hamlets music service.
I have been teaching privately over the last several years and furthermore enjoy immensely the process of passing on sound advice.

By attending numerous music workshops and summer schools with The National Jazz Youth Orchestra, Kiniteca Bloco, Grand Union Youth Orchestra and JMI’s KlezFest, I have gained valuable insights into teaching practice in many different contexts.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a practical teacher and therefore aim to get you playing as much as possible.
I understand if you’re inclined towards the structure of grades and can accordingly gear lessons towards that. On the other hand I can provide materials for us to work through in a variety of styles including: Jazz, Latin (Salsa and Bossa Nova), South African Township, Klezmer and Funk.
Developing your Ear, Technique, Reading, Improvisation and ensemble skills are all fundamental to my teaching.
