Personal Description:
I am currently undertaking a PhD in violin teaching and injury prevention amongst musicians and my teaching books are in the process of being published. I tell you that just to give you an insight into my dedication to my teaching and to my students. I also lecture on teaching techniques both freelance internationally and at Bangor University, North Wales.
I started playing the violin at 7 years old and was instantly hooked. I went to the Purcell School and then to Trinity College in London, where I studied both violin and piano, music history, theory and composition.
My Masters degree focused on the importance of 'Wellness' in our music lessons. That is to say considering posture, ergonomics and tension so as to ensure and safe, pain free way of playing. Not to mention the beautiful sound that such considerations make… even on violin… from day one!
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for over 20 years and my passion for educating those who wish to share my art form has only grown with time. I teach at Royal Northern Cellege of Music (Young Strings Project) and privately in North Wales and central London. I have a 100% success rate and am proud that no-one I have ever taught has quit because they are not happy with their music lessons. Those who have entered for exams both ABRSM and Trinity have also a 100% pass rate.
I am enhanced DBS checked and have also undertaken the NSPCC training course "Child Protection in Schools."
Tutoring Approach:
Everyone can learn to play and enjoy music. That is fact. Everyone learns differently, at different rates and through differing means but everyone can learn. And every life can be greatly enhanced by having the experience of music.
This, in my approach, is the base line. From there we ascertain whether you wish to be serious student and partake in concerts and exam structures and that will be accommodated with confidence, with pride, with fun and with success.
If you need a crash course in a grade in theory (lets say 5!) I can offer you that too. Or perhaps you just want a few extra lessons for that looming grade or recital or college scale exam. I have taught groups of students, mature students who are seeking life fulfilment and just wish to enjoy a careful and steady approach to melodies they wish to accomplish. Conversely, I specialise in teaching the violin to the very young-age 3 upwards!
