Personal Description:

Taught to play classical viola and violin from the age of 5 through to Grade 8 viola, violin and Grade 5 music theory in addition to playing guitar, piano, singing and songwriting. Over the last 15 years, I have discovered the joy of performing! I have performed solo, played in bands live and in recording rooms, in symphony orchestras including live at Edinburgh’s fringe festival and taught lessons in various settings. I encourage students, and all those who I interact with in life, to believe in their abilities in order to reach their full potential.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught beginner to advanced level violin and viola for a range of students and mixed aged groups, including adults who have never picked up an instrument before. I understand how to efficiently work through fears, anxieties and get to the other side of the alleged ‘screeching cat’ phase of string instrument learning. I have taught abroad and in the UK, both face to face and online. In my spare time I am also a professional scuba diving instructor, so I have extensive experience in clear, positive communication, patience and adaptability to enable students to thrive.

Tutoring Approach:

My focus is to listen to the individual needs and goals of each student, so every session is tailored to them no matter level of experience, building confidence and skill in a relaxed, positive environment. Specialising in 1) classical training for beginners to intermediates for good posture, bowing style, precision, finger work and technique. 2) reading sheet music of different styles in alto and treble clef 3) specific tuition for Grade 1-6 exams and performances 4) Grade 1-5 music theory 5) playing by ear to music of all genres from folk to film compositions for playing in groups, bands and modern improvisation settings 6) beginner acoustic guitar, singing and songwriting. All age groups are welcome. Anyone with a dusty instrument in the corner or a pang to learn a new skill are encouraged to get in touch.
