Personal Description:
I am a freelance musician and teacher based in London. I have a busy and fulfilling career performing and touring both with my wind quintet and with many of the professional orchestras including the London Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, London Mozart Players and the Philharmonia Orchestra. I am also on trial with the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra. I love teaching and am the oboe teacher at Highgate School and Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet as well as teaching many private students.
I studied with scholarships at the Royal Academy of Music for both by MA and my undergraduate degrees, receiving a BMus First Class Hons Degree and an MA with distinction. I have been lucky to study with many world-class musicians and educators, such as Jonathan Kelly, Chris Cowie, Celia Nicklin and Diethelm Jonas to name a few.
Tutoring Experience:
*Now also offering online lessons*
I have experience of teaching both oboe and piano privately to students of all ages and abilities. I am the oboe teacher at Highgate School and at Queen Elizabeth's School in Barnet. As well as my individual tuition, I have worked for a number of years with the National Children's Orchestra, have coached ensembles on the English Camerata summer courses and regularly run workshops in schools with my wind quintet, Chiltern Winds. I completed the LRAM Teaching Diploma in 2020.
Tutoring Approach:
I find teaching extremely rewarding and believe that in order to keep the pupil engaged and therefore make the most progress, lessons should be fun yet challenging. I encourage all my students to engage with ensemble playing and feel that students learn best when technical aspects are combined with learning lots of repertoire. I am always open to suggestions from my students and tailor my lessons to the individual pupil in order to set realistic goals for them.
