Personal Description:
I am an enthusiastic and experienced Music instrumental teacher offering private tuition in the West Midlands. I have previously taught in Cardiff for 4 years whilst studying for my BMus (Hons) specialising in Flute, at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, where I graduated in July 2017. I have since then taught privately in Worcestershire. I have a car and am willing to travel to students to provide lessons (depending on time/day/distance!). I am currently a primary school teacher so am therefore not available to give lessons during daytime school hours, however I am available after 5pm and at the weekends.
Tutoring Experience:
I am currently a classroom primary school teacher and lead the music curriculum. My previous work within schools includes being orchestral conductor at Bryn Deri Primary School, Radyr, Orchestral assistant at St Johns College, Cardiff and teaching assistant and PPA cover teacher for 'Academics' teaching agency. I have also been a private instrumental tutor for 10 years, offering Piano, Flute, Recorder, Violin and Music Theory lessons to children aged 3-18. I have also been a Supply tutor at the 'Bromsgrove School of Music', covering lessons for young children on Piano and Violin.
Aside from current work, I have previously volunteered for the registered charity 'Making Music changing Lives' as assistant flute teacher, and for the BBC National Orchestra of Wales as a Flute teacher on their 'Try an Instrument' scheme.
My practical music-based qualifications include; DipABRSM- Flute performance, Grade 6 Piano, Grade 7 Violin, Grade 6 Saxophone and Grade 5 Music Theory. I am also competent in Recorder.
I currently hold an up-to-date DBS certificate, a UK driving licence, and am certified by EduCare, holding an NSPCC Child Protection Awareness certificate.
I have experience in orchestral playing, previously being a member of 'Academy Chamber Orchestra', Birmingham, City of Birmingham Symphony Youth Orchestra, Orchestra of St John, Chandos Symphony Orchestra and National Youth Wind Orchestra of Great Britain.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that music is such an important part of life, and the benefits it has on a child's development are huge. Being a musician enables us to develop communication, work with other people, develop emotion, enhance mathematical abilities and most of all create a sense of achievement.
My approach to Music Tuition allows the student to work at their own pace, choosing a style that suits them. I encourage the musicians to be motivated and hard working in order to achieve the best they can. Above all, the Musician should be encouraged to enjoy making music.
