Personal Description:
Hello! I’m Dominic , I’m a professional musician based in North London and a founding member of folk trio TEYR, as well as performing for Ceilidh bands and big stage acts across the UK and Europe. I have spent the near entirety of my life being engrossed in music. I am a self taught Uilleann pipes and whistle player, and I have been performing regularly in the UK folk scene now for just over twelve years. I have a degree in Music from the University of East Anglia, which allowed me to specialise in composition and performance, and it was there I found my love for the profession I now find myself in today.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught music to both children and adults, of all ages and abilities. I am very experienced in teaching music theory and woodwind instruments such as the uilleann pipes, whistles and flute. Recently I have started teaching compositional and arrangement techniques to other musicians and also performance and stagecraft to students. Alongside my chosen instruments of my profession, I also play the bass, piano, drums and guitar; thus I am able to give lessons on rehearsal techniques in your chosen instrument.
Tutoring Approach:
Music, for me, is a very broad church. As such it requires various disciplines to be well honed - so I guide my pupils first through a series of lessons that evaluate hearing, technique, theory as well as how confident they are in their chosen instrument and even how they carry themselves when they perform. Auditory learning is extremely important for me - it is what I base a lot of my lessons on, as most folk music is often learnt this way this is the method in which I taught myself. I am well versed in music notation and music theory, so I will be able to incorporate that where it is relevant or desired. I believe in student-led tuition, that being, the direction and momentum of the learner is in their hands and is guided by my experience and knowledge.
