Personal Description:
I’m a former professional multi-instrumentalist with years of experience performing, recording, and collaborating across a wide range of musical styles. Throughout my career I’ve had the privilege of working with diverse ensembles and exploring the unique voice of each instrument I play. Music has shaped the way I think, create, and connect with others, and I’m excited to bring that passion and perspective into everything I do today.
As a jazz instrumentalist, I learned early on that music is as much about personal expression as it is about technique. The improvisational nature of jazz taught me how to listen deeply, take creative risks, and communicate through sound—all values I now pass on to my students. In teaching, I use that same spirit of freedom and exploration to help students develop their own musical voices, encouraging them to move beyond the notes on the page and discover what they truly want to express.
Tutoring Experience:
I came to teaching organically, first by helping my own children explore music and then by working with their friends and classmates. Guiding them through their first discoveries showed me how powerful a patient, playful, and supportive approach can be. Those early experiences—watching kids light up when something ‘clicks’—shaped the way I teach today. I learned to meet each student exactly where they are, to nurture curiosity, and to build an environment where learning feels safe, joyful, and genuinely personal. Now, as I pursue my ARSM diploma in teaching, I’m deepening my skills and commitment to providing thoughtful, high-quality musical guidance to every student I work with.
Tutoring Approach:
I approach music tuition with a patient, playful, and student-centered ethos that values individuality and nurtures musicality above all: drawing on my experience as a professional multi-instrumentalist, I encourage creative risk, deep listening, and expressive freedom so each student discovers their own voice. I am happy to combine graded exam preparation with individual exploration and through this I combine practical technique, improvisational spirit, and bespoke lesson plans to meet learners exactly where they are and help them grow confidently as musicians.
