Personal Description:
I have been working as a professional gigging musician for over a decade. My interests lie primarily in pop and rock music but I am also well equipped to teach in a classical style. I adapt my lessons to each pupil, preferring a combination of reading sheet music, chord charts and working by ear. I incorporate music theory into all my lessons but I make it fun and practical. Overall, I believe enjoying playing is the most important thing.
Tutoring Experience:
I have many years of experience as a private music tutor. I have previously taught in community centres and arts centres but I'm currently offering lessons from my home studio in Govan, very close to the subway. I enjoy teaching people of all ages from young kids to retired people, and all abilities. Inclusivity and accessibility are important to me, and I'm always happy to adapt to meet individuals' specific needs. During lockdown, I became accustomed to providing online tuition, which I continue to offer.
Tutoring Approach:
I'm open and adaptable to help you in whatever area or style you are most interested in. If you bring along songs that you want to work on, I'll be more than happy to help you with them. At the same time I have endless material to choose from and recommend. Especially with younger people, I use games to develop skills in sight-reading, clapping rhythms and listening (recognising chords and intervals etc). I often work through the syllabus of Rock School and/or Trinity College, but this is totally optional. I offer lessons either on a one-to-one basis or in small groups (ie for siblings etc).

I have had a few tutors in the past, but I was not too happy due to a lack of progress being made, despite charging me quite a handsome price. However, with Dean, it's a steal! I feel like I am not giving the money deserving of the lessons I am receiving, but as a student, it's hard to scrunch together the money needed to pay for lessons like these for a hobby. As such, I would highly recommend any student that wish to pick up, or is thinking of picking up the piano to have a lesson with Dean. It's the best I've had, and if you put in the work, you'll excel with each lesson.
As a person, Dean is extremely flexible with time, and is very accommodating. I believe him to be a competent teacher with great communication skills, and highly skilled with his chosen instruments: piano, and guitar.
If you wish to start learning either of the aforementioned instruments, a lesson with Dean is a great way to start. Did I mention how great the price is?
Sorry it proved so difficult getting a time that suited you. Is this the reason for the low rating? Let me know if there's anything else I can do
Best wishes,
Dean
I would definately recommend him.
