Personal Description:
My name is Dean and I am a freelance musician and music tutor currently based in Newcastle Upon Tyne that has taught for 12 years alongside consistent live, studio and theatre work in the UK, Europe and USA. I am currently pursuing a solo career after years of playing and performing with others in the UK and beyond.
With over 15 years of both contemporary and classical experience, I have studied under teachers such as Pete Roth (London Gala Orchestra, Bill Bruford), Jamie West-Oram (David Bowie, Tina Turner), Paul Turner (Jamiroquai, Annie Lennox) and Brent Mason (Alan Jackson, Dolly Parton).
I now find myself in the position to perform with the skills that I have learned with a variety of artists and shows from all around the world alongside being able to pass on what I have learned to others at all levels and on a variety of instruments.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching guitar, piano, music theory, ukulele, mandolin and bass guitar for 12 years to students of all ages and abilities. Over this time I have taught a wide variety of genres, techniques and songs to students, including both contemporary and classical grades (E.g. ABRSM, Trinity, Rockschool).
I have also had the pleasure of working at the Academy of Contemporary Music in Guildford, Surrey and also in schools as a peripatetic music tutor.
More comprehensively, I have worked for the following organisations as a private/freelance tutor:
Core Music CIC (2021 - present)
New Musicians Institute (2019 - 2023)
PrivateMusicLessons (2018 - 2023)
Academy of Contemporary Music (2017 - 2018)
Open2Music (2017 - 2020)
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to music tuition is holistic yet focussed. I teach not only how to play the instrument and music of your choice but also encourage understanding what you are playing and the contexts in which they come from. I keep things light and fun while also thought provoking and endeavour to keep every student inspired each and every week that they learn.
I tailor each and every lesson to each student's requirements. I strive to make sure every lesson is enjoyable, informative and inspiring. Whether students want to learn through grades, their favourite songs, or simply expand their knowledge of their instrument through learning different techniques and approaches, my main goal is to ensure they enjoy their experience and fully achieve their goals.
