Personal Description:
Hello!
My name is David. By profession, I am a pharmacist but I am also an experienced musician and hold an associate diploma from the London College of Music, on the electronic organ. As well as teaching electronic organ, I am also happy to teach electronic keyboard, piano and music theory.
I also enjoy getting others into music and helping them overcome any fears they might have about learning music. This includes both adults, and children.
Other than music (and pharmacy!) I have many interests/hobbies including playing badminton, rugby league, football and mathematics. In fact, I recently used my spare time to study for a BSc (Honours.) degree in Mathematics with the Open University, which I completed at the end of 2014.
I began playing music casually when I was a young boy, on the keyboard, before progressing onto the electronic organ and then undergoing more formal examinations with the London College of Music. I worked through grades one to eight before undertaking the certificate of advanced performance on the electronic organ and then obtaining the Associate of the London College of Music (ALCM) diploma in 2002.
Tutoring Experience:
The majority of my teaching to date has been music theory, piano and electronic keyboard.
I am willing to tutor all ages whether that be for fun/personal interest or those with an interest in pursuing graded examinations. It's never too late to learn!
In terms of graded examinations, I am most familiar with the London College of Music syllabus but can adapt to other schools of music syllabuses if required.
There may also be options for students to perform publicly if they so desire!
Tutoring Approach:
At the outset, it is important to know what stage the student is at, both in terms of their instrument and in their understanding of music theory - these are closely interlinked. I am an enthusiastic, patient teacher but thrive to make people understand what they can achieve. All student preferences are catered for with the student guiding the musical material for the lessons.
Lessons ideally take place at the students home. If this is not possible, then students can visit my home. I aim to keep a reasonably structured approach through the use of tutor books for beginners. Once I believe the student is ready, I will suggest a preparatory test before moving on to graded examinations. Some students prefer not to take exams, which is also absolutely fine.
I have a valid DBS certificate which can be provided if required.
