Personal Description:
Private guitar and piano tutor, multi-instrumentalist and creative producer based in Wakefield. I have been classically trained from a young age. My broad range of musical knowledge not only includes instrument knowledge and music theory, but also extends to the psychology of music and music production, which I studied at degree level. I am also a credited songwriter, having had two BBC Radio 1 Record of the Week on two separate occasions to my name.
Tutoring Experience:
I have 10 years of experience as an established teacher within the U.Kâs largest mobile tuition company. I have garnered a reputation for being able to deliver fun and affordable lessons that efficiently progress students to personal goals and academic achievements, with most of my business thriving though recommendations alone. Often I have managed to rekindle a students passion for music after they have had a less inspiring experience with another tutor.
My most prized accomplishments are my 100% pass rate on exams, and the continued patronage of my longtime students. I relish the opportunity to work with more students of any age and ability in order to continue this trend. I have had students ranging in age from 6 to 50+ over the past decade.
Tutoring Approach:
My philosophy as a teacher is not only to impart knowledge, but also to inspire students to teach themselves. In my lessons I introduce students to a carefully selected body of traditional and contemporary pieces, but I also ask students to find pieces they personally enjoy and break them down into their fundamental elements so that we can learn them together. With this in mind, I try to balance the lesson so that the time can include discussion and exchange rather than just be a one sided instruction. I believe this involvement and application from the student is a powerful tool for learning.
I believe that teaching should be flexible and adaptive. I adapt my lesson plans to meet the needs of the student and also to emphasize their particular strengths and develop their particular areas of interest. I do this so that they can develop the skills most relevant to them so that may apply them to their own pursuits. My assessment of students is initially based upon these personalized goals and then later incorporated into a broader knowledge which may lead into exams.
