Personal Description:
I am a classically trained composer and guitarist. I have played in bands in and around Glasgow over the last 15 years and work as a guitarist and composer.
Tutoring Experience:
I've taught many beginners to play to a Grade 8 standard on their instrument, some of my past students are currently completing their own higher education in music. As an instructor for schools I've helped many young guitarists and bass players secure excellent results in SQA music exams as well.
I teach many styles; Classical, jazz, rock, blues, finger-style acoustic.
Tutoring Approach:
I always try to take an individual student's needs and prior learning on board when planning their lessons. For younger students I always recommend learning to read music as you learn the guitar.
I find it's best to be flexible with more experienced students and I also teach playing by ear. As a student develops, music theory starts to play a very important role in their learning as well.
Helping to structure regular practice time with students and parents helps secure good progress for the student.
