Personal Description:
I have spent my career playing with the worlds most famous brass bands and in the worlds most famous theatre scene, The West End.
I have played for the famous Grimethorpe Colliery Band, Brighouse and Rastrick Band, Desford Colliery Band and Easington Colliery Band.
Over the years I have had the opportunity to perform in some of the worlds great venues include The Royal Albert Hall, Sidney Opera House and many more. I have also been lucky enough to take part in tours to the USA, Australia, Singapore and Europe.
I am a Head of Music in a secondary school Head of Music in Durham.
My playing career:
I used to play for the Royal Shakespeare Company, with the last show being Matilda which is now being played in the West End.
I played in the West End for many shows over the years with a residency at the Round House in Camden, and the Prince of Wales in Covent Garden.
Tutoring Experience:
My teaching as a player started when I was just 15.
I worked for the Birmingham Music service while I was at Music College
I am now a fully trained Music Secondary Teacher in the Durham area.
I regularly tutor or Brass Band and Orchestral courses around the country.
While working with the RSC I was teaching brass to local schools.
I have been the cornet tutor for the Grimethorpe Youth Band.
I am a cornet tutor for the Territorial Youth Brass Band of Great Britain.
Tutoring Approach:
I think playing with students helps; I offer a relaxed approach to teaching including both theory and practical.
It is important that a teacher is a performer still and that is what I offer- I still perform around the country and often find myself on tours around the word. This is important for inspiration but also context for the learner.
