Personal Description:
I am a multi-instrumentalist with over 25 years experience teaching guitar, piano and flute to people of all ages from beginners to advanced.
I began teaching whilst studying Music with Recording at Salford College of Technology which is now part of the University of Salford and upon leaving I decided to remain in the field of instrumental teaching and developed my private practice over the next 15 years or so.
I then moved down to Oxfordshire (Woodstock) where I am now based and I continue to offer quality tuition in guitar, piano, flute and keyboard to students of all ages. I also like to teach the craft of song-writing and the theory of music to those students who may be interested and as a singer-songwriter myself I can often be seen performing on the acoustic/folk scene around Bucks/Berks and Oxon.
In my spare time I enjoy archery, flying light aircraft and playing live music!
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for the past 25 years and during that time I have taught people of all ages, abilities and backgrounds. Many of my students have had great success in the national examinations but equally as many have enjoyed learning an instrument just for fun and the sense of achievement.
I also have experience in teaching people with disabilities including 2 without sight and I have had great success and learned a great deal myself whilst guiding them towards achieving their ambition
Tutoring Approach:
I believe that the best way to teach is to encourage and guide the student to discover the world of music themselves. My diverse musical background allows for a varied and interesting approach and I take inspiration from many styles of music from baroque & classical to soul, funk, reggae, rock & more. Each genre has something to offer the student of music and I can incorporate as much or as little of each as the student wishes. If a student has a clear goal to remain firmly within one discipline then that is quite alright but should someone wish to learn elements of everything then that is equally fine. My lessons are holistic in style and I like to incorporate elements of technique, repertoire, improvisation and general musicianship into each one, whilst keeping it fun for the student.
Tuition takes place online via Skype/Zoom/Facetime or in your own home (or a combination of both).

I would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn to play the flute and have no doubt that he applies the same approach to teaching the piano and guitar.
