Personal Description:
I am a very experienced and enthusiastic teacher specialising in teaching beginners with over 25 years experience. I have a primary school teaching degree with a specialism in music . I play a range of instruments and conduct choirs. I teach instrumental and vocal lessons both at many local schools and privately at my house.
I enjoy all apsects of music and love sharing this with my pupils. I specialise in beginners but do teach to a range of standards. I cover a wide range of music from classical, jazz to pop as learning music is meant to be fun! I teach for learning to play for pleasure and/or exam preparation. My pass rate is very high with over 95% of my pupils gaining merits or distinction grades. I teach all age ranges from children to adults. All ages are very welcome. I enjoy teaching lots of adult beginners who amaze themselves and me each week as they progress to becoming a confident pianist.
Tutoring Experience:
For over 30 years I have been teaching private 1:1 tuition on instruments. My success rate is high and drop out rate very, very low. I build confidence at all levels and all of my pupils thoroughly enjoy coming to their lessons. We prepare for ABRSM exams when you are willing and able and my pass rate are always Merits or Distinctions in both Practical and Theory exams.
I also offer Maths and English tutoring to Key stage 1 and 2 children to boost their confidence and encourage them to reach their full potential .
I very much enjoy teaching so my pupils enjoy learning! We laugh lots in lessons and love making music .
Tutoring Approach:
I think having an enjoyable experience is the best way to learn. I am patient, understanding and very experienced teacher and use many different teaching strategies to suit the individual pupil. We cover all areas of playing ranging from different repertoire, scales and Theory are all included as part of your lessons.
Lessons are taught in my music room at my house and SKYPE Lessons are also available for you to have lessons in the comfort of your own home
I love teaching and hope my pupils love learning to play! That' s what it is all about

From Michael (/5): I've been learning with Clare for the last 6 weeks and it has been a wonderful experience! I had a very patchy knowledge of playing piano and really wanted to learn properly and dedicate some time to it. I was happy to start with the basics and Clare's teaching style makes me feel so comfortable when at the piano. As a teacher, Clare sets a great pace and we work on all of the tricky things that I overthink in small chunks - so well that I never feel stuck for two long! I've been challenged to not dwell on small errors and Clare has been great at highlighting old habits and how I can amend those as we learn. During/after each session Clare sets a few pieces to practice and there's always a good balance of refreshing pieces I feel better at and focusing on new techniques or knowledge I'd learnt in one session. Today, I completed my first book and I couldn't believe how much I'd learnt since my first lesson. Finally, Clare is super flexible and is happy to switch sessions which works really well with my work schedule ☺️

Her teaching method is very clear and she makes it fun to learn. She is patient and relaxed which makes the lessons enjoyable. Can't wait for my next lesson.

Clare's enthusiasm is catching. She teaches so cleverly & makes it so rewarding, you learn without realising it. Ray, my husband booked me in for a lesson as a surprise & it was. I had a throat operation 3 years ago & haven't been able to sing since then.I was never brilliant but I just wanted to sing around the house without sounding like a frog with a cough. I thought I was hopeless but after 3 lessons, I know I will be able to do it one day. It will take time but Clare is sure it will happen & with Clare as a teacher, so am I. Many thanks,

From Alexander (/5): Fantastic Tutor. Began Lessons as an Adult Learner and not being able to read music and have thoroughly enjoyed my lessons. During all lessons you are made to feel comfortable and are really given the best chance to progress. I feel I have come a long way already and am able to read basic music and play along to it as i read. Would never have expected it 3 weeks ago!

She is always encouraging, even when I'm making a mess of a piece, and I have every faith that she will get me to my Grade One!
