Personal Description:
I am a freelance Trombone player who graduated from the Royal Academy of Music in 2004.
I am currently 28 years of age. I work with lots of different Orchestras all of the country from the likes of The English National opera and London Concert orchestra, to the Ulster Orchestra in Belfast.
I have also been teaching brass instruments since 2002. I have many different pupils of varying ages and standarsd, and am always happy to start people off on the instruments of their choice no matter what age or ability.
Tutoring Experience:
At College I gained a first on their brass teaching course that i undertook in my fourth year, making me a Licentiate of the Royal Academy of Music (LRAM)
I have taught in a number of different schools in London, working for some different teaching companies.
I am currently teaching for the Merton Music Foundation, where i teach in different schools teaching individual lessons and the new government wider opportunities scheme. I also teach at their saturday morning music school.
Aswell as working for Merton, I also teach privately, with students of varying ages and abilities.
I also travel to schools with a company called the Education group, where i spend the day at different schools around the south of England teaching them basic music skills and helping them to perform their own music.
Tutoring Approach:
Instrumenatl lesson, i personally think, should be fun and enjoyable. I f the pupil isnt happy they rarely make much progress on the instrument.
I find that it is always best to teach in a nice relaxing atmosphere, and one that is familiar to the pupil. This is why i go to the pupils house when i teach privately, and why i do not teach at my own house.
I do like my pupils to practise, and i believe that the best approach is to practise little and often. 10 minutes over the course of a day is a hundred times better than an hour of practise the day before a lesson.
