Personal Description:
I’m a friendly and enthusiastic guitar tutor from Glasgow. I have been a professional musician for many years and love to teach and inspire students who want to achieve the same, or even just strum a few chords!
I perform all across Scotland regularly and have experience playing everything from rock guitar on live radio, to acoustic background at wedding ceremonies, to free improvisation at the Edinburgh Jazz Festival.
I'm available for online or in person lessons and am comfortable teaching all ages, styles and abilities!
Tutoring Experience:
I run classes at the Yamaha Music School in Kilmarnock and have done for over 10 years. In that time I have taught a large number of students at all levels and put many through their graded exams, with a 100% pass rate.
Although I believe in the focus and structure grades can give to your practise, know that there is no obligation to work through these yourself. Lessons are planned for each student individually and we will work to your own needs and pace.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to strike a balance between making lessons fun as well as productive. Lessons are to be educational of course, but playing guitar is such a joy, I think it’s important to not lose sight of that.
Every student has their own ambitions and I always keep these in mind when planning our lessons. Ultimately, I want students to feel inspired and motivated, where one day they develop the skills and ability to teach themselves.
Expect to learn or improve:
- Chord knowledge and rhythm skills
- Scale/arpeggio visualisation and application
- Improvisation and all aspects of lead guitar technique
- Reading standard notation and chord charts
- Understanding of music theory and how it applies to your playing
- Versatility; adding to songs you can already play and exploring new genres
