Personal Description:
I teach online and face-to-face at my home for which I have a planning permit. I studied music and education at Dartington College of Arts and Rolle Teacher Training College.
Tutoring Experience:
I started as a class music teacher with other subjects and became an instrumental teacher for classes of adults and in schools. I have also performed for most of my career including some of my own compositions.
I have entered about 550 students for exams mostly for Trinity College and many of them have attained a merit or distinction. Some of my students have achieved scholarships to study music. However most of my students prefer to learn music without taking exams. Some of my students are now working in the recording industry and one is a member of a rock group that became famous in the 1970s and another is now manager for some present day famous singing stars.
Recent Trinity College face-to-face and digital exam results for my students are three passes, nine merits and thirteen distinctions. Also two merits achieved for music festival entries.
Tutoring Approach:
I am currently teaching online and face-to-face for one student at a time at my home. I teach students to read and play music from notation including some music theory. I can also teach chord playing from chord symbols on the guitar, ukulele and piano / keyboard in addition to playing from music notation.
