Personal Description:
I hold a music degree from Manchester University and am now a full-time tutor in maths, science & music theory. My degree consisted of extended theory, analysis, performance and music history essays. I have been teaching performance, music history and theory for 7 years, with outstanding results. I have a 100% pass rate for grade 5 theory on first sitting, and all but one have achieved a distinction. I can provide evidence and references for these results.
During my school career, I was part of many ensembles and orchestras, including the National Youth Orchestra, and have performed in many venues such as Royal Festival Hall, Royal Albert Hall, The Barbican, Buckingham Palace and Wigmore Hall.
Tutoring Experience:
Whilst at the prestigious Purcell School for young musicians, I lead an award-winning music outreach group. I have extensive experience with one-to-one lessons, teaching over 50 students in the past three years. I make lessons fun and tailor the pace to the student. I have experience with adult learners too. For theory and written exams I provide comprehensive revision and exam technique sessions as part of the package.
I am fully CRB enhanced checked. Please note I operate a 24 hour cancellation policy as standard.
Tutoring Approach:
I am most familiar with the ABRSM exams, so please contact me for other boards. For A level written music, I am familiar with AQA and Edexcel boards.
Please note I offer GCSE and A level music tuition, although this is not available as an option on this website.

Charlotte understands the requirements of different schools and their assessment criteria. She will give an honest appraisal of where your child is at - and will support them to achieve their goals. We're very grateful for her support - and look forward to working with her again in the future.
I am very pleased to say that with Charlottes assistance my daughter scored 94% in the end of year exam. I would highly recommend her to others.
It's been a great experience.
I looked at ratings and feedback and contacted Charlotte. She was a pleasure to connect with , super professional and we were absolutely clear we would go with her.
The key things she brings to table which we wouldn’t be able to get from other teachers was techniques on how to succeed in these tough exam conditions and still get a great score. This is a Recipe which is hard to find .
Charlotte was able to focus on our son’s weakness and really helped him overcome those in a very short duration and then hone his strengths. She also challenged us on our aspirations and schools for our son and gave lots of good advice on schools.
Her method of teaching is such that kids love to learn and as parents we get updated on a regular basis / It doesn’t feel we have outsourced a task . She included us every part of the journey. We are really lucky to find her.
Outcome – Our son got into almost all the schools he applied to – He received Headmasters award at Caterham which is one of the hardest school to get in our area. And also received scholarship offers from other schools. This year was one of the most competitive and schools told us there number of applicants have roughly doubled. Without her help our son would not be able to achieve what he has been able to.
We will continue to take her help and guidance for our son for 13+.
I look forward to continuing my lessons with you and watching your son progress.
Charlotte is a firm, efficient and very determined tutor. She prepares the lessons, her sheets and the approach perfectly to the needs of my son. It is really impressive how quickly she realised which approach will work for my son. She has brought a lot of structure to his science study. She even set up the iMessaging group with myself and my wife. She even responds to messages on weekends - this option she offers so we can contact her anytime is very uncommon.
I remember at the end of Y9 when my son received his annual report, he came up to me and said " dad I don't want to fail in sciences at GCSE" and two months on (July, Aug) he said "do you remember how worried I was about science, so much has changed, I feel much better about biology and chemistry now"
I feel the key is that he has started feeling a lot more hopeful about science and can already see the confidence he takes from science, he is able to transfer that, to learn other subjects as well as to his attitude. How to approach a difficult subject or how to study in general has been the biggest revelation for him.
It is still a long way to GCSE, but with Charlotte on our side, we look at his academic performance with a lot of hope and optimism. Thanks Charlotte, for showing us the light!
With her help, my boy's Maths progress is way above our expectation, from not able to answer a single question on a GCSE mock exam paper to getting a pass :) Thank you Charlotte.
Charlotte has provided the focus, organisation, application and consistency that was holding back my daughter's attainment. Thank you!
We will definitely call on Charlotte again for our other children.
Thank you Charlotte!
I can’t tell a lie. Our daughter has not really enjoyed science in general at school. She does however want to do well and, from previous experience, we knew that having a private tutor can really make a difference. A month in and Charlotte is making a real impact. Charlotte keeps E focussed which I think is a reflection of her diligence, teaching expertise and engaging style. Within a few lessons Charlotte has a clear view on E’s learning style and what she needs to focus on to encourage good results. Charlotte is good at providing insightful feedback which allows us, as parents, to work in partnership. I suspect we will see a general improvement in her confidence and exam technique across the GCSE board, not just in science. Looking forward to watching E’s progress in science with Charlotte.
Charlotte is not only an extraordinary tutor who knows the gcse math and science curriculum back to front, but she is also a supportive person who made learning enjoyable and accessible. I could not recommend her more highly, especially as I achieved 7s in Math and Combined science, both of which are the subjects I’ve always found the most challenging. My twin sister, who chose to do her GCSE curriculum in a year, also using Charlotte for tutoring, achieved 9s in Combined Science and a 7 for Math.
Since Charlotte started her lessons with him he has improved his grades but more importantly she has managed to boost his confidence and maths is no longer a lesson or exam he dreads. This is something we value greatly and we will continue the tutoring until his GCSE next year.
He has found the lessons and homework well structured and relevant and Charlotte is really friendly and approachable making it easy for him to feel relaxed. Having never employed a tutor before we had our concerns but can now say confidently that we would not hesitate to recommend Charlotte.
Thank you!
Charlotte has boosted my daughters exam grades enormously and give her confidence with a subject that she once dreaded. My daughter recently took her 13+ Common Entrance Exams of which she successfully passed and now has her place at her chosen school confirmed. Thanks Charlotte!!
Half term school reports in October proved our decision to employ Charlotte as being the right one for us. Combined Science grade from Year 9 had now risen two levels, also Physics, previously her most troublesome area has become her strongest.
I have also been very pleased with Charlotte's prompt time keeping, attention and feeback. As well as the rapport she has built with my daughter.
Thank you Charlotte.
My two sons have a great relationship with Charlotte and are progressing very well. Charlotte is patient and encourages my sons to ask questions and ensures that the principles being taught are fully understood. This is reinforced with regular homework and tests.
Charlotte has excellent communication and organisational skills which make scheduling lessons very easy. In addition to this we are given regular updates on topics and progress.
Charlotte is friendly, trustworthy and very easy to have in your home. Charlotte also connects with my sons on a personal level which builds a good rapport between them.
My sons have benefited immensely from Charlotte's support and are progressing very well in maths at school.
I have no hesitation in recommending Charlotte to anyone considering a maths tutor for their child.
My daughter continued to show tremendous improvement and finally got an A in her finals !!
Ms was very encouraging and supportive at all times.
I am pleased to recommend her to any student who needs help with sciences especially Chemistry and Physics.
Charlotte is supporting her with English, maths and science, a huge amount to catch up with. Charlotte is doing an excellent job in motivating and encouraging my client and is able to pitch the workload exactly right to not overwhelm her.
My client loves working with Charlotte and is on course for passing her GCSE's!
I would highly recommend Charlotte.
It seems a long time ago since we first made contact on here and so I'm writing to thank you so much for your help with Sara's preparation for her 11+ exams, including entrance exams for Alleyn's, Streatham and Clapham High School and St Dunstan's. You were amazing at every step of the way and it would not have been possible without your support.
In particular I'd like to praise your approach. Rather than just work through the syllabus and make sure Sara knew her material, which of course you did, you helped with her study skills, her exam preparation (the dreaded cards!!), marked her practice papers and helped us set up "exam conditions" at home, advised her on literature to read and even helped her work through her motivation when times were difficult. Sara's mum and I discussed your approach and decided that you were more of an education and study consultant or therapist, than simply a tutor.
To anyone reading this at a later date who is looking for a tutor, please just stop now, you've found one. On top of everything I've written above, Charlotte is a lovely person, friendly and fun.
Thanks again Charlotte, we'll be in touch when our younger daughter is doing the same thing!
Yours,
Matt Campbell
She is flexible and pushes my son to reach his full potential.
Disappointed that Charlotte has moved house which might make it difficult to get to us - the tutoring in our home works really well.
My son has dyslexia and she ensures that the resources are designed to support his needs. I have seen a huge increase in his confidence since beginning sessions with Charlotte.
Charlotte has made my confidence and knowledgeable. She always thinks positive and well motivated. She is funny and friendly as I still remember her smile and laughter when I first met her at the café :) She is an excellent tutor and enthusiastic, when I don’t understand some of the topic, then she will explain to me in simplest method. I’d highly recommend Charlotte for those who looking for math tutor and you will surprise with the result. She is amazing!
I would recommend Charlotte to my friends and family - and I'm confident no matter what your age from 3 to 83 she has the ability to WOW and be your best teacher
