Personal Description:
Carina is freelance musician based in London who has finished her Master of Music in Performance with Distinction at the Royal College of Music (RCM), supported by the Help Musicians UK, the Kathleen Trust and Black Heart Foundation. Throughout her musical journey, she was awarded the Excellence Award from The International Society for Musical Studies, same as the RCM Flute prize and the Fewkes prize and June Emerson Launchpad Award from the Royal Northern College of Music, where she finished her bachelor with honours.
Since starting her musical education, she has participated in numerous courses, workshops and masterclasses, working with professional flautists and conductors from the big renown UK's orchestras, and had the pleasure to experience playing side-by-side with Manchester Camerata and players from the Hallé and Chamber Orchestra of Europe. In addition, her orchestral experience has included playing with various orchestras around London and Manchester, and as a chamber musician, she used to give music workshops with one ensemble in the NW of England. On top of solo recitals, she was privileged to perform as a soloist with a philharmonic in Romania when she received the ‘Ion Vidu’ prize for winning many competitions in Hungary, Serbia and her home country, but one of her nicest memories is recently recording in Abbey Road Studios.
In 2019, after receiving a scholarship for the course, she performed at the British Isles Music Festival and in 2020 and 2021 was finalist in the prestigious RNCM Concerto competition. During the same period, Carina was involved in the work-related scheme offered by the BBC Philharmonic.

Tutoring Approach:
Throughout time, I've been blessed with learning from fantastic musicians and flute players, and it would be my pleasure to pass on my knowledge. Regardless of age/level of playing, I hope to cover more than just flute playing, and to introduce the pupil more into the music itself, including covering the background of historic and performance practice of different pieces that would be studied. As always, I'm open and wish to learn from my student as much as they could from me.
Flute:
The lesson will cover 4 aspects: learning to play the instrument (building up the technique, including scales and sound/finger exercises), repertoire, and basics of music theory and music history that correspond with the repertoire chosen. At the end, I will provide ideas for a practice plan for next lesson, highlighting the goals and aims the student should be targeting for developing and making the most out of their lesson.
Music theory:
The lesson will cover 4 aspects progressively: learning the fundamental music theory (notes, values, irregular rhythms, notation, intervals, alterations, basic solfege and dictation), cycle of fifths, scales, modes, chords, intervals/chords affiliation in different keys, musical forms, harmonic writing and counterpoint. At the end, I will provide ideas for a study plan for next lesson through small homework, highlighting the goals and aims the student should be targeting for developing and making the most out of their lesson. Dictation and solfege will become progressively harder to train the student's ear. Music theory available in both American/English/German system of notation (letters) and Latin with movable Do (Do, Re, Mi, etc.).
Lessons needs cancelling at least 48h in advance for avoiding the 50% cancellation policy.
