Personal Description:

Hi, my name is Beth, I am a classically trained operatic soprano and yoga teacher. I grew up singing Irish Folk and discovered classical singing at the age of 10. At 16 I moved to Manchester to study the voice at Chethams School of Music and BMus in Vocal Studies and Opera at the Royal Northern College of Music. Here I discovered that the voice is totally different to other instruments, you are your instrument. Through this I began to practice yoga, which became an integral part to discovering how to use the voice on a deeper, healthier and more efficient level.
I am particularly passionate about the connections between these two practices. After all so much of singing is based on posture, breath, connection to your body and mindset, especially when performing!
I grew up playing the violin, clarinet and piano, attending orchestras, ensembles, choirs and operatic companies, resulting in a vast array of musical and genre-bending experiences.

Tutoring Experience:

Over the past 6 years I have taught between the ages of 8 and 92. I teach all abilities and most genres. As a peripatetic singing teacher I have a lot of experience teaching secondary school children, an age group I am particularly passionate to teach, focusing on vocal technique as well as wellbeing tools to support stress and anxiety. I have successfully supported many students through their ABRSM singing exams. With the lowest score being a merit, on average my students achieve distinctions.
Many of my students are adults, learning to sing as a hobby, an outlet or a form of self-care, having a safe space to discover and develop their voice.
I am well versed in reading the abilities and needs of my student and lead them to develop not just vocally and musically, but in confidence and trust in themselves which develops many other areas of their lives.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to every student is different, I read what the student needs support with and tailor the lessons to this. I am skilled in vocal technique, performance coaching, and music theory, with a proven ability to help students of all ages and skill levels achieve their musical goals. Adept at creating personalised lesson plans to address individual needs, focusing on vocal health, vocal tone, pitch accuracy, range expansion, stage presence and discovering the full potential of your voice. Dedicated to fostering a supportive, fun and inspiring learning environment.

The first lesson will always include a conversation with the student to see what they would like to achieve from lessons, and together to map out an action plan to get to this point.
With some students breath work practices and yoga will be involved.
With some students we just solely focus on the vocal technique, songs and music theory.
It is dependent on what the student would like to focus on and what they would like to achieve.
