Personal Description:
I am a passionate musician and graduate of Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music and Dance (BMus Hons, Jazz Trumpet), where I was awarded the TCL Silver Medal for the Jazz Department in 2021. Prior to attending university I studied with Principal 2nd Trumpet of the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra Pete Turnbull. I have experience working on Jazz improvisation and Classical trumpet repertoire and am comfortable teaching both.
Tutoring Experience:
I currently deliver one-to-one and group lessons to people aged between 6 and 70+. Through university I have experience running workshops for primary school classes and have also had a supporting role at Tomorrow's Warriors' Jazz Hang. I also have experience leading rehearsals and writing and arranging pieces for groups and ensembles.
I am currently a brass teacher at the East London Community Band, The DaCapo Music Foundation and Wren Academy Finchley.
Tutoring Approach:
If learning an instrument and making music was not meant to be fun, it would not be called playing. I believe it is highly important to learn to play with strong technique and that this is best achieved by enjoying practice rather than treating it as a chore. I aim to engage students by paying particular attention to how each individual responds to different tried and trusted resources and adapting appropriately.

Austin has a very methodical approach to teaching the trumpet and the ability to make complex concepts simple to understand and remember. A very good trumpet teacher.
