Personal Description:
I was born in Yokohama, Japan and started playing the violin and piano at 3 years old using the Suzuki method. I attended Yokohama Music school and the prestigious Toho Gakuen Music academy for 11 years and performed as part of the orchestra. I was tutored by Asako Iwasawa, Winner of the Marguerite Long–Jacques Thibaud Competition. I was invited to attend the Tokyo College of Music High School for 3 years where I studied with Prof Kousaku Yamaoka and Katsuhiko Tamaki. I then won a scholarship to the Royal Academy of Music but chose to study at the Royal College of Music where I completed BMus studying under Prof Yuri Zhislin, Natalia Lomeiko and Ani Schnarch. During my four years I performed under such notable conductors as Vladimir Ashkenazy and Bernard Haitink. In the past I performed regularly with the Orpheus Sinfonia as well as performing ad hoc pieces for gala and contemporary events.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for over 18 years and some students have been with me for over 7 years and I have assisted them with their entry into the Royal College of Music, Junior Department. I have taught beginner to Diploma (with aural and theory). I have taught violin from scratch and have had students aged 3. I have also had a number of mature students. I have taught a large number of students whose first language was not English. I have been living in the UK for over 18 years and now have a family and children.
Tutoring Approach:
I like to get my students comfortable and get to know them. I adjust my teaching style to get the best results depending on the aim of the student. We will usually concentrate on a couple of exam pieces and also scales to increase fluency and confidence. I will then assist with musicality and some music theory. I teach either half hour or one hour focused lesson with one student.
I use a bespoke teaching method for each student and am highly experienced with the following methods:
Suzuki, Carl Flesch, Sevcik, Kayser, Kreutzer, Rode, Jacob Dont (Etudes) and Paganini caprice 24.
