Personal Description:

Graduate from the Royal Northern College of Music Bmus PGdip PPRNCM with 18 years teaching experience. I am keen to teach all genres from baroque (I studied the Baroque oboe for some time) through to contemporary styles which I also studied under Melinda Maxwell.

I am a busy freelance musician and play with professional orchestras and ensembles around the North West.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught for Stoke on Trent music service for 15 years teaching pupils from age 7 through to post A level students. I am also oboe teacher at The Grange School and Withington Girls' School. I have also taught at the junior RNCM and at Altrincham college for Arts. I have many private pupils as well and enjoy teaching all age groups.

Tutoring Approach:

Learning at your speed. I believe aiming towards grade exams is a positive target to aim for and a good reward for hard work however I don't believe that is the most important thing so am happy to explore lots of music outside of the standard syllabus and take time to master technical aspects of the instrument. I like playing oboe duets and learning orchestral parts with more advanced students. I encourage pupils to attend and take part in as much live music as possible.
