Personal Description:
I am an experienced and reliable woodwind and piano teacher with a career ranging from private and peripatetic teaching to primary and secondary classroom music teaching.
I also offer 1-2-1 tutoring on the SQA question papers for National 4/5, Higher and Advanced Higher Music.
I teach from my home in Stewarton, East Ayrshire.
Tutoring Experience:
As a classroom music teacher, I specialise in composition. My students compose successfully in many different styles including Popular Music, Blues, Classical and 20th Century. We can do this using a range of technologies from Sibelius to Logic Pro X.
I have taught small and large groups, and whole classes of primary and secondary age students and would be happy to facilitate group lessons between siblings and friends to develop ensemble skills and encourage regular practice.
My students have attended Junior RCS/RNCM/RCM classes and later progressed into performing and education degrees at the same universities. Many of my students also learn for enjoyment and I facilitate regular opportunities to perform at concerts and competitions to keep them motivated in practice.
Tutoring Approach:
I tailor my lessons to the individual student and have experience with a range of exam boards meaning I can find the best fit for my students to ensure progress. I am experienced with the SQA Nat4/5/Higher/AdvHigher school curricula and can help prepare students for these solo and ensemble performance exams. Lessons are fun and engaging, I use a range of techniques to embed music theory alongside practical music making to ensure there is a strong foundation to progress from.
