Personal Description:
I have been playing instruments since 1978 - which is over 43 years and counting! In this time, I have learned to play a lot of instruments in a lot of styles. I read well and I improvise well. You will find that I am a very committed musician - not a part timer but full time. It is a pleasure to share my knowledge, skills and experience with you as a prospective student. I am also a composer and arranger and producer. Despite what is advertised, I am available for online lessons.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching since 1990 and in that time, have taught in different educational contexts including Primary Schools, Secondary Schools, Colleges, Adult Education, Local Authority Music Services and for private Providers. I have run my own private teaching service since 1990 and since 2003 have operated under my bandskool trading name.
Tutoring Approach:
All lessons and lesson materials are tailored to the individual. Extensive use is made of customised learing materials that are uploaded to the student's own personal page on the bandskool website. Increasingly lessons can be online as well as offline. I like to teach improvisation whatever the instrument and feel that learning musical languages such as Rock, Jazz, Irish, Blues, Latin is important in order to authenticate one's playing. Theory is not a probem -all the way up to diplomas. I love theory but realise it is not everyone's thing; so a little can be made to go a long way. Often there isn't a rigid teaching plan in place though it depends on the student and what they wish to achieve and in what timescale. I am competely flexible in my approach and always recognise individual requirements in my students. Fast track students or casual students? No problem.
