Information About Allison - Milnthorpe teacher

Personal Description:

I have been playing music in some form since I was 7 years old, it is something I am really passionate about and what to share that with my students. I have played in many brass bands since I was 9 years old from community bands through to championship.
I also play for local orchestras and choral societies when required. I also enjoy arranging and composing my own music, often to suit the needs of my students.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching for over 30 years, starting when I was in my teens. I mostly teach individual students but have also taught small classes in schools.

Tutoring Approach:

Before commencing teaching a student I find out what their aims are. Often students want to follow the exam route but increasingly students just want to learn how to play their chosen instrument and progress to be a competent player. I use the traditional tutor books and I supplement with either my own compositions/arrangements or books which have pieces in at the level of the student. I also like to teach music awareness within the lesson as I feel it is important to be able to understand and appreciate music as much as gaining the physical skills of playing an instrument.
