Personal Description:

I am a passionate musician who loves performing and teaching, investing my energy and knowledge particularly in children as I find their young age crucial. I teach the violin (all levels), the viola (beginners), the piano (up to intermediate level) and theory (beginners to intermediate).

Bio

I was born in Greece, Thessaloniki. I started playing the violin at the age of 6. In January 2018 I graduated from the University of Macedonia where I specialised in European Classical Music Performance as well as Pedagogy. During that time, I took part in several seminars for solo and ensemble music in Europe. In September 2019 I gained a Master’s degree with Merit from the University of Southampton where I focused both on classical and baroque violin, teaching and marketing. I have completed a PGCE on group instrumental tuition with Music Masters & the BCU. I have been an active Violin/Viola, Piano and Theory teacher since 2018 while my most recent capacities include musicianship workshop leading and being a Teaching Ambassador for the Benedetti Foundation. Performance-wise I focus on chamber music. I collaborate with chamber ensembles, individuals and bands. Other interests of mine are poetry/writing, singing and folk music.

Tutoring Experience:

My philosophy includes the Suzuki & Kodaly methods, ear and rhythm training, fixing and maintaining a great posture that supports a beautiful way of playing, and loads of games. Custom advice is being given for practise, as well as fundamentals of music theory woven into the lesson to expand comprehension.

Testimonials

"Alkistis is a professional teacher, not only in terms of occupation, but also in the sense of using the proper method to convey the essence of teaching. Her communicational skills towards children are excellent, never lacking her sense of humour, which enables children to interact actively."
-Iason, carer of 7 y/o piano beginner student, Thessaloniki, Greece

"Alkistis has been my violin teacher for a few months now, and my lessons in this time, both online and in
person, are something to look forward to each week. Alkistis’ imaginative approaches to teaching technique and great attention to detail have led to improvements in my technique, violin sound and in confidence when I am playing playing".
-Jemimah, advanced adult student, Southampton, UK

"My daughter is not the easiest to teach – she has Asperger’s and although she is very
talented on the violin, before we met Alkistis, she had absolutely no discipline on the violin!
She could play well technically but lacked music theory, musical knowledge and sight-
reading skills. Under Alkistis’s tutelage, my daughter is learning to become an amazing
musician and can now sight read, understand music and has developed a fantastic ear for
pitch and sound. Alkistis is the most patient teacher, most talented teacher I have ever met.
She has the patience and the intuition to be able to work with all kinds of students. This is
because teaching music is a true passion for Alkistis and I know my daughter has flourished
and will continue to flourish under her talented tutelage. If you want a teacher that will
instil confidence and a love for music, this is the teacher I recommend hands down".
– Rebecca, parent of 9 y/o intermediate violin student, Southampton, UK

"Alkistis is very reliable and professional teacher. She has been my daughter's teacher for over three years and my daughter has been progressing tremendously. Despite great exams achievements, my daughter really enjoys lessons with Alkistis. I really recommend Alkistis as a music teacher".
Magda, mom of a 10 y/o intermediate violin student, Southampton, UK

Tutoring Approach:

I want to equip children to become the best version of themselves by becoming active listeners as well as cultivate musicality and use their natural strengths. I find games an fun activities to be the best way a child can learn. I'm not aiming to simply produce technically refined players, but use music as a means for every child to discover their potential while enjoying the gift of music.
