Personal Description:
I am an experienced and enthusiastic music teacher having taught class music through all key stages. Additionally, I am a specialist instrumental teacher of the flute. I have recently taken early retirement from the classroom and have just moved to Herefordshire from Kent. I am a passionate flautist who is looking to increase my private flute teaching. My students achieve well, in the last session I had a grade 1 distinction, 6 merit and 8 distinction ABRSM. I am a competent pianist (grade 8) and enjoy accompanying my pupils. I also take my students through their grade 5 theory exam. Beginners to diploma level welcome aged 4 to adults.
Tutoring Experience:
Director of Music at Medway Music Centre, Kent Music - 20 years experience, children's choirs, adult and children's flute choirs and wind ensembles.
Music and Creative Arts Manager, Primary and Secondary lead teacher for Music. 30 years full-time classroom experience.
I started teaching the flute to beginner/intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel when I was 16 and have really enjoyed developing numerous flautists privately alongside my professional classroom career. Recently I have risen to the challenges of online teaching and preparing flute pupils successfully for their online ABRSM Performance Exam. I also use Trinity Guildhall and have a few adult pupils who prefer not to take exams as they just love the flute and want to enjoy playing the repertoire!
Tutoring Approach:
I inspire my pupils by making their lessons interesting and fun. Learning an instrument can be challenging and I have the experience to identify learning styles, individual strengths, abilities and needs. I do however expect and achieve high standards of work and encourage my pupils to achieve their musical potential. I am an intelligent, enthusiastic and very caring teacher. I strive to give my pupils the best chances and skills available to develop their confidence, self-esteem and ability to go forward in life.
