Personal Description:
I began playing saxophone when I was 11 years old. My teacher soon got me hooked on learning easy jazz standards and jazz and improvisation have been my passion ever since. I regularly compose and perform with local groups run by both myself and others. Aside from music, I have a keen interest in baking and often find a way to combine the two!
Tutoring Experience:
I have over 10 years teaching experience in primary and secondary schools as well as Higher Education. I have been teaching privately for over 12 years, with students from as young as 5yrs old to people in their later retirement. I regularly run group jazz workshops for Jazzlines (B:Music) and have taught on their annual summer school since 2015. I have also been a guest mentor on the Isle of Skye for the National Youth Jazz Orchestra of Scotland.
Tutoring Approach:
I understand that everyone has an individual objective and enjoy working this out with every student. I am happy to teach people who enjoy music as a hobby as well as those hoping to take their talent further. I think improvisation and composition are great skills for communication and creativity and encourage students of all ages to learn the basics and incorporate these in their lessons.

I am so sorry that I didn't take the opportunity to have further saxophone lessons but I think the sax is not for me. You were very kind and understanding and I thank you for teaching me the notes G, A and B! You are clearly a very good teacher and I wish you all the best for the future.
Best wishes,
Paul E
