Personal Description:
I am a professional freelance French Horn player and teacher. I am a graduate of the Royal Academy of Music, and have a wealth of orchestral playing experience, having played in many of the UK's major symphony orchestras. I am also an active chamber musician, being a founding member of the Ormonde Ensemble wind quintet, with whom I perform recitals, deliver education projects and work to diversify the wind chamber repertoire.
Tutoring Experience:
I have extensive experience teaching French Horn in school settings and on a private basis. I am the French Horn teacher at James Allen's Girls School in London, and work as a brass tutor with Wandsworth and Tri-borough Music Hubs. I have delivered one-to-one, small group, and whole class lessons, for abilities ranging from beginner level through to advanced learners. I am comfortable teaching pupils of all abilities and I am happy to teach both younger students and adult learners alike. I am well-acquainted with the ABRSM and Trinity examination board procedures and standards.
Tutoring Approach:
I am a committed, passionate and empathetic teacher, who believes strongly in giving students the same quality of tuition irrespective of their level, age or ability. I aim to establish good methods and techniques for both practice and performance with my students from the outset, that will serve to benefit their musical experiences over time. I always bring my own instrument to lessons to demonstate and play alongside my students, as I feel this allows pupils to bettter engage with their lessons. Having studied an academic undergraduate degree at the University of Birmingham before completing my musical education at the Royal Academy of Music in London, I believe I have a unique set of educational experiences that allow me to translate these ideas into my own teaching.
