Tutoring Experience:
Most recently I was the brass tutor at De-La-Salle Academy, Liverpool.
From October 1996 to March 1998 I worked for Bury Music Service, Whitefield, Manchester as a Peripatetic Brass Teacher
teaching brass instruments in schools
I have also worked for the Aintree School of Music
My private pupils have made amazing progress.
Tutoring Approach:
Successful tuition means understanding and being able to communicate the mechanics of technique while developing musicality, or the appreciation of rhythm, musical shape and performance. My goal is to encourage the student to become a rounded musician rather than merely to be able to play the notes on the instrument. For this reason I include duet playing in the tutorials and encourage particiaption in musical ensembles. It is also important to be aware of the specific goals of each student. Do they need to pass an exam? Do they want to play in a rock band? Lessons can be tailored with individual goals in mind. Lessons can be 30 minutes, 45 minutes or 1 hour according to the needs and budget of the student.
