Personal Description:
Birmingham Conservatoire, graduating in 2008 with Honours.
As a performer I play regularly in the fields of Jazz, World, Electronic and Improvised Musics as a member of prominent Birmingham bands including; The Destroyers, The Fair Rain/The Old Dance School, Sid Peacock's SURGE Orchestra, Young Pilgrims, Hansu-Tori, Propellor & ELDA. Other performance credits include; FOOD (Iain Ballamy & Thomas Strønen), The Neil Yates & Mike McGoldrick Undivided big band, Paul Dunmall’s Brass Project, Beats & Pieces Big Band. Theatre work and appearances include; Waste Paper Opera Company, the Royal Shakespeare Company, and Oily Cart.
I have taught Trumpet & Cornet, as well as other valved brass, at all levels. I also teach music theory, composition, and improvisation on all instruments. I am based in Kings Heath, South Birmingham and can accommodate pupils at my house, or online.
Tutoring Experience:
From absolute beginners to undergraduate students and advanced players, I have prepared many students for musical examinations, providing an insight into improvisation and helped students participating in musical ensembles and bands.
Previous teaching experience includes; whole-class, small-group and individual instrumental teacher for Sandwell Music service, Telford & Wrekin Music Service, Forest Arts Walsall, Stratford Music centre, Coventry University & Royal Birmingham Conservatoire’s SoundLab music centre as well as private pupils.
Tutoring Approach:
Whatever you are looking to get out of music, whether playing with groups or ensembles, studying at school or higher education, or improving your playing for personal enjoyment, my lessons are tailored for every individual's need. Music is a social and rewarding occupation, with enjoyment and fun being key ingredients to performing and playing successfully. My lessons promote this and will open up new and exciting areas of music whist studying together!
